The platform was created in spring 2016. Among the developers were Oliver Beddows and Max Cordek.

Lisk is a decentralized blockchain application platform. It is considered to be quite simple and easy-to-use. Thanks to the project, participants can develop, distribute, and manage decentralized applications on their blockchain branch, which is synchronized with the main blockchain. It uses a network with a highly efficient model of delegated share validation.

LSK is a network payment unit that resembles other cryptocurrencies. It has a high level of scalability, decent speed, and a minimal probability of failure.

Some believe that the new project can become Ethereum’s competitor, as the concept of their development is similar, but there is no Ethereum blockchain to create intellectual contracts. Professional developers, such as Charles Hoskinson and Steven Nerayoff, who had previously worked on Ethereum development, were engaged in this project creation. The platform also has different programming languages. Lisk was developed using JavaScript, a well-known language to programmers.

Lisk used an unusual method of mining coins called "forging", as opposed to the usual mining. Mining is carried out by delegates (101 people) they vote for. So, mining is not provided.
